Oesophagus

  • Nerve plexus on it so need to be careful 
  • Through diaphragm T10 

 

Stomach

Secretions:

Region Secretes Motility
Lower oesophageal sphincter + cardia mucus, HCO3-
  • prevention of reflux
  • entry of food 
  • regulation of belching
Fundus + body H+, intrinstic factors, mucus, HCO3-, pepsinogens, lipase
  • reservoir
  • tonic force during emptying
Antrum + pylorus mucus, HCO3-
  • mixing and grinding
  • regulation of emptying

Gastric gland 

 

  • G cell - gastrin secretion inhibited by luminal H+, causes acid secretion + mucosal growth
  • M cell - motalin
  • D cell - somatostatin (paracrine) inhibits gastrin, CCK*, secretin

*CCK, cholecystokinin, inhibits gastric emptying
