• Damaged basement membrane = extracellular matrix production Kimmelstiel-Wilson nodules
• Small vessel damage = ischaemia and tubular damage

Often asymptomatic CKD / nephrotic syndrome

Syndromes

• Nephrotic - proteinuria, hypoalbuminaemia, oedema
• Nephritic - haematuria, hypertension, oedema
