Infection of bone - acute pain swelling, pathological fracture
Acute a/w inflammatory reaction, fulminant, sepsis
Chronic - present for >1 month, smouldering acute flares
- Children - S. aureus, S. pyogenes, Kingella, Haemophilus
- Contiguous - Skin (Staph, Strep), enteric (GNB, anaerobes)
- Penetrating - skin flora/ environment
- Sickle cell - Salmonella sp.
Treat with long-term antibiotics and debidement of infected bone in severe cases
Early detection and aggressive management are crucial to prevent complications such as bone necrosis and systemic spread of infection.
