Underproduction of parathyroid hormone despite low calcium. Much rarer than hyperparathyroidism

Causes
- DiGeorge syndrome
- Autosomal dominant hypoparathyoidism
- Pseudohypoparathyroidism Type 1A - bones + kidney don't respond to parathyroid hormones - defective parathyroid hormone receptor
- Surgical damage to the gland after thyroidectomy

Secondary
Depression due to chronic hypocalcaemia, would likely accompanied by signs of hypocalcaemia
