Hypomagnesemia

• ​​​​​​​Cofactor for ATP, neuromuscular excitability, enzyme function, regulates ion channels
• Required for PTH release
• Associated with other electrolyte disturbances

 

Symptoms

• Nausea, muscle cramps, tremors, hyperreflexia, tetancy (involuntary contraction of muscles)
• Associated with long term use of omeprazole
• IV infusion of magnesium sulfate
