Iron storage disorder - doesn't raise circulating blood iron

Raised transferrin saturation and ferritin, with low TIBC

• Chronic progressive pain in his metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints
• Grey skin
• Hepatomegaly

 

• Treatment with removal of blood (venesection), iron chelation 2nd line

 

'if haemochromatosis is the diagnosis- to- be

expect a low TIBC

plus ferritin and transferrin oh so high

venesection + chelation to say bye bye'
