Drug Class NSAID
Mechanism Reversible inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes → prostaglandin synthesis
Typical Dose 75-150mg OD with food
Indications
  • Inflammatory diseases (e.g RA), Post-op pain
  • Pain
  • Pyrexia
  • Acute gout
Contra-indications
  • Aspirin/NSAID hypersensitivity
  • Severe heart failure
  • Caution in elderly patients
Side-effects GI discomfort, bleeding/ulceration, renal failure
Interactions
  • ACE inhibitors: ↑ risk of renal impairment
  • SSRIs: ↑ risk of bleeding
  • B blockers/CCBS: NSAIDs antagonise hypotensive effects
Elimination  
Additional Notes Risk of Gi irritation - reduce with taking with food/enteric coated tablets
