Slow growing cancer of mature myeloid cells which don't function properly

• Main findings is abnormal FBC results, splenomegaly, constitutional symptoms & hyperviscosity
• Caused by Philadelphia chromosome t(9;22) long arm - forming BCR-ABL gene
• Good prognosis with imatinib - tyrosine kinase inhibitor 95%
  • Unless transforms into acute myeloid leukaemia
