Permanent dilation of bronchi and bronchioles due to wall damage secondary to chronic necrotising infection

  • Usually triggered by obstruction (tumour, thick mucus in CF) and/or infection
  • Obstruction causes infection or infection arises $\rightarrow$ inflammation $\rightarrow$ wall damage, dilation and debris and mucus
  • Productive cough - possibly blood
