Bone changes in osteoarthritis vs rheumatoid

Osteoarthritis LOSS - irregular bone remodelling:

1. Loss of joint space
2. Osteophyte formation (bony spurs protrude out)
3. Sclerosis (underlying bone becomes hard)
4. Subchondrial cyst

Rheumatoid arthritis LESS - immune reaction:

• Loss of joint space
• Erosions
• Soft tissue swelling
• Soft bones (osteopaenia)
