Amoxicillin

Drug Class	Broad spectrum bactericidal penicillin
Mechanism	Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by preventing cross-linking between peptidoglycan chains
Typical Dose	500mg TDS
Indications	Gram +ve bacterial infections (strep, stap) Gram -ve bacterial infections (H. influenzae) Helicobacter pylori eradication Infective endocarditis prophylaxis prior to dental surgery
Contra-indications	Penicillin hypersensitivity
Side-effects	Skin rash, diarrhoea, N&V, candida vaginitis
Interactions	OCP: decreased effectiveness of OCP
