Accumulation and proliferation of immature myeloid cells
- Median presenting age 69
- Features of bone marrow failure (anaemia, severe opportunistic infections, easy bruising and haemorrhage (thrombocytopenia)), fatigue, gum hypertrophy
- NPM-1 good FLT3-ITD bad
- Treatment with intensive chemo, then bone marrow transplant in vunerable, then FLT3 receptor inhibitors
Complications include:
- Bleeding
- Neutropenic sepsis - from chemo, broad spec antibiotics
Poor overall prognosis and worsens with age. Most common type in adults
